Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife files for divorce months after police shooting and being booked for attempted murder

Jillian Lauren-Shriner is said to have filed for divorce from Scott Shriner.

Shriner, the bassist of rock band Weezer, has been married to Lauren-Shriner since 2005. The celebrity pair wed in Hawaii and went on to welcome two sons together, Jovanni Starshine, 13, and Tariku Moon, 17.

Lauren-Shriner is said to have cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for breakdown of their marriage.

“Irreconcilable differences is essentially no fault divorce and allows one spouse to file for divorce without alleging grounds or fault. This is the widely used term to file for divorce,” Evan Schein of New York-based family law firm Berkman Bottger Newman & Schein previously told UNILAD about the commonly-used reason.

According to People, Lauren-Shriner is asking for spousal support and requested that the court’s ability to award Shriner spousal support be terminated.

She also wants the Weezer star to pay her legal fees and wants to have ‘Shriner’ removed from her surname.

The filing comes eight months after Lauren-Shriner had a run-in with cops that resulted in her sustaining a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

On April 8, officers descended on the Los Angeles neighborhood of Eagle Rock where Lauren-Shriner lives following reports of a hit-and-run nearby.

While Lauren-Shriner was not involved in the collision, she appeared outside of her home with a weapon and reportedly refused to drop it when told to do so by police.

She’s said to have fired at an officer at one point and ultimately an officer shot back in her direction. Lauren-Shriner was shot in the shoulder and taken to hospital for medical attention.

The mom-of-two was later booked on an attempted murder charge before being released from custody on a $1 million bond.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges in May and in September a judge granted a mental health diversion to her, meaning that she avoided jail time for the incident, NME reported.

Just weeks before her run-in with the police, Lauren-Shriner had undergone surgery after being diagnosed with cancer.

In March, she reportedly had two back-to-back surgeries, including a full hysterectomy, said The Independent.

Sharing a post of her in hospital on Instagram, Lauren-Shriner penned at the time: “I have a little bit of the C word y’all. I know a lot of us do. I’m here to thank the incredible oncology team here, who pulled me through a complicated operation without a hitch.

“I am always so grateful for every second of the compassionate, and excellent medical care I receive in my life. Thank you to all the remarkable health care workers, who take our lives in your hands. And let’s all breathe.”
