Trump is looking to change marijuana laws in the US and it could have a major impact

President Donald Trump is exploring the possibility of relaxing marijuana laws in the US despite having never smoked a joint in his life.

It became apparent that the 79-year-old wasn’t overly familiar with the 4/20 life as his bumbling response lead to Americans questioning his intelligence.

“Trump is the dumbest President in history,” wrote one user on Twitter.

While a MAGA supporter added: “When it comes to marijuana this motherf*cker doesn’t know sh*t. I voted for Trump and love what he’s doing but when it comes to this subject, he’s a f*cking moron.”

But whatever his administration decides could have a major impact on the country.

While speaking at a press conference at The White House yesterday, Trump was asked about the rumors that marijuana will be reclassified – with it currently a Schedule I drug under federal law.

The POTUS replied: “We’re only looking at that, that’s early, but you know, somebody reported it, which is fine.

“We’re looking at it. Some people like it, some people hate it – some people hate the whole concept of marijuana because if it does bad for the children, it does bad for people that are older than children.

“But we’re looking at reclassification, and we’ll make a determination over the next, I would say, over the next few weeks – and that determination hopefully will be the right one.”

The Republican continued: “[It’s] a very complicated subject this, you know the subject of marijuana. I’ve heard great things having to do with medical and I’ve had bad things having to do with just about everything else.

“But medical and for pain and various things, I’ve heard some pretty good things but for other things I’ve heard some pretty bad things.”

It comes just days after Trump attended a fundraiser where entry costing $1 million, with some of the marijuana industry’s leading figures having attended.

As mentioned earlier, Cannabis is currently a Schedule I drug which means the law lists it as addictive and highly dangerous, while medical use is currently not accepted – and has been registered in such a way since 1970.

Now, Trump’s team is looking at reducing the classification of it which more than likely allow tax breaks for weed firms, as well as reduce criminal penalties – but it would still be illegal for recreational use.

Of course, states have their own laws and many of them have legalized the herb.
