Brad Pitt ‘sues ex-wife Angelina Jolie for $35 million’ as private emails are revealed in court

Brad Pitt is suing his ex-wife Angelina Jolie for millions of dollars in a new lawsuit, court documents have revealed.

Pitt and Jolie finalised their divorce after some eight years of legal wrangling to end their two-year-long marriage.

Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt back in 2016, but despite the separation being finalised, the pair continue to be locked in legal battles.

The main focus of the ongoing dispute is the Château Miraval winery that the pair bought together in France.

Jolie previously sold her stake in the winery to a third party, which Pitt claimed violated an agreement they had over the business that neither would sell without the other’s approval.

Since then, the legal battle has continued to grind on in the courts.

Now, documents have revealed that Pitt has sued Jolie for $35 million in damages over the winery dispute, which snowballed into the former couple’s ongoing divorce proceedings.

The lawsuit was revealed in an email from November 2023.

Lawyers representing Jolie said previously: “The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation—he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages.

“As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”

Not only that, but an email from Jolie’s team dated October 2023, says that Pitt was ‘seeking ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations’.

Jolie’s legal team would also go on to refer to ‘Pitt’s continuing refusals to produce documents relating to the reasons why he needed his four-year NDA covering his personal misconduct’.

They argue that these are ‘to the heart of our case and must be produced’.

Lawyers representing Pitt in the ongoing case said that less than six months after Jolie sold her Miraval shares, her legal team suggested a broader mutual non-disparagement clause, which would be associated with the pair’s divorce.

When Pitt claimed that he and Jolie had agreed to not sell their shares without the consent of the other, Jolie denied such an agreement.

The case continues, with the next public hearing set for 17 December.

Jolie’s attorney, Paul Murphy said in a statement shared with PEOPLE: “Mr. Pitt’s reply brief does not address our arguments and continues to rely on conjecture and speculation — all for the purpose of invading her privileged communications with her lawyers.”

The statement added: “This once again confirms that this lawsuit is the manifestation of Mr. Pitt’s years-long effort to harass and control Angelina. We look forward to the upcoming hearing.”
