Trump’s surprising comment to Mamdani in first meeting has everyone saying the same thing

Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani met for the first time in person at the White House but things didn’t go as many people were expecting.

Trump and Mamdani have been trading barbs over the last few months but you wouldn’t know it based on how they interacted together in the Oval Office yesterday (November 21).

Ahead of Mamdani being elected the mayor of New York, the US president had taken many shots at him and questioned whether he would be an ideal fit for the role.

Telling his followers about the meeting on Friday, Trump claimed in a Truth Social post that a ‘communist was coming to the White House’.

Mamdani also recently took aim at Trump, calling him a ‘despot’ during his victory speech earlier this month.

But speaking to reporters at the White House this week, it seems that volatile relationship has died down as the pair appeared very cordial with one another.

Rather than making veiled insults at one another, they appeared to be full of praise.

Trump told reporters he believes Mamdani will be a ‘really great mayor’ and added later that he was ‘confident that he can do a very good job’.

He also gave Mamdani an out when he was asked by the press whether he thought Trump was a ‘fascist’, simply telling Mamdani he ‘can just say yes’.

Trump later insisted that ‘we’re going to be helping him’, before adding: “We agree on a lot more than I would have thought.”

People on social media were definitely taken aback by this, with many saying the same thing – that it is an incredible turnaround from the pair.

One user wrote: “The Trump and Mandani post meeting press conference was absolutely fascinating. The body language, the answers and what wasn’t said!

“Mamdani head and shoulders above his years tactically. Trump literally has spent the whole presser fluffing his ego. Just incredible.”

Another said: “Trump clearly liking Mandani reminds me of how he seemed to have a soft spot for Bernie during election season. He def never went for the jugular. Very strange phenomenon.”

A third joked: “Most unexpected bromance of 2025.”

Some people have concluded that the cordial nature is because the pair are now simply set on addressing the affordability crisis and both know that success in this arena will ultimately be tied to their political success.

Someone else added: “It’s good that Mamdani and Trump can work together.”
