When we think about the art of winning over women, we often turn to people we believe were good at it. Barack Obama, with his smooth style, smart mind, and sense of humor, seems like someone who would have instantly charmed Michelle when they first met. But, sorry to disappoint – she wasn’t impressed right away.
The couple met in 1989 and got married three years later. Even though their first meeting wasn’t a “love at first sight” moment, Barack must have done something right. They met shortly after graduating from Harvard, both working at the same law firm – Michelle just starting her career and Barack as a summer intern. Barack quickly asked her out, but Michelle said no, thinking it was inappropriate. At that time, there was a lot of buzz about Barack, but Michelle wasn’t sure he deserved all the attention.
After finally going on a date and introducing Barack to her family, Michelle’s brother, Craig, shared her initial doubts. They thought Barack wouldn’t stick around and might leave Michelle soon. But, as we know, that didn’t happen. Barack had been in love with Michelle from the moment he met her, and even today, you can see the love in the way he looks at her.
The first date was the turning point for Michelle. She had assumed Barack would be a weird guy for little other reason than his name being Barack and him having grown up in Hawaii. By the end of their first date she got over all her doubts and was completely sold on the man that would turn out to be one of the most influential and iconic presidents of the most powerful country on the planet. And despite all this, Barack still considers Michelle to be superior to himself and has given the advice to single men to do as he did and marry a superior woman to strengthen the gene pool. Nothing woos the women like talking some real biology.
Jokes aside, Barack and Michelle Obama are an inspiration to many people. Their story shows that even a rocky start can turn into a beautiful relationship that inspires others worldwide. So, don’t give up! Even Barack Obama had to work hard to win the love of his life.
