Malia Obama was seen with stunning red hair last week while having brunch alone in Los Angeles. She was spotted at Broome Street General Store, near the popular areas of Los Feliz and Silver Lake.
Malia kept it casual but stylish, wearing a green zip-up hoodie, black leggings, and Teva sandals. She let her hair down and carried a Diemm tote bag.
In July, Malia Obama was seen with friends at Chateau Marmont, with her hair looking like its natural brown color. However, she did debut a slightly new shade to celebrate a big moment in her filmmaking career.
At 26, Malia has mostly kept a low profile while building her career in Los Angeles. She made a rare and surprising red carpet appearance in early September at the 50th opening ceremony of the Deauville American Film Festival in northern France.
Malia Obama appeared to be makeup-free, wearing a plaid Vivienne Westwood corset with a matching but slightly different skirt and knee-high boots.
She told Paris Match, “I’m so excited,” and added, “I’m a little bit terrified, but mostly just excited.”
Since graduating from Harvard in 2021, Malia has been living in Los Angeles and working on different film and TV projects. She has written for Donald Glover’s series Swarm and also made her own short film called The Heart, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Malia has chosen to go by her first and middle name professionally, using “Malia Ann” instead of her full name, “Obama.”
Malia’s sister, Sasha, has also been working behind the scenes in TV. Some viewers noticed her name in the credits of the reality show Couples Therapy, where she was listed as a casting interviewer. Her real first name is Natasha, which was used in the credits.
Their decision to go into entertainment instead of politics was recently explained by their father, Barack Obama. He shared that their mother, Michelle Obama, strongly discouraged them from entering politics. He said at a fundraiser for President Joe Biden, “Michelle told them early on that it would be crazy to go into politics. It will never happen.”
