Some fans are questioning if Kylie Jenner’s Halloween costume really counts as one, since it involved professional makeup and fancy lighting. The Kylie Cosmetics founder, known for her over-the-top Halloween looks, posted one of her outfits on Instagram on October 31.
In this look, Kylie, 27, posed nude to recreate Demi Moore’s famous poster from the 1996 movie Striptease. She had long black hair with bangs and struck the same pose, sitting with one leg crossed and looking straight at the camera against a blue background.
Kylie Jenner then posted another photo of her Striptease-inspired Halloween costume, where she wore a sparkly bikini top and bottom like the one from the movie.
Even though Jenner’s look closely copied Demi Moore’s style in Striptease, many people on social media weren’t impressed. Some were frustrated and didn’t think her outfit should be called a Halloween costume.
One person on X/Twitter commented, “My pet peeve is celebrities ‘dressing up for Halloween’ and it’s a professional photoshoot.”
Another user added, “Celebrities paying for photoshoots to look like other celebrities isn’t Halloween! You got glam, an editing team, a photographer—give us a break!”
A third person said, “This isn’t a costume. She’s just naked and posing like the movie poster.” Someone else wrote, “Celebrity Halloween is so boring. Wow, you spent a lot of money and hired someone to make you look exactly like the character—yawn.”
Kylie Jenner wasn’t the only celebrity whose Halloween costume disappointed some fans. Her older sister, Kim Kardashian, also went all out, dressing up as an “albino alligator.” The 44-year-old Skims founder shared pictures and videos of herself completely covered in white, scaly prosthetics, even with a reptile-like tail.
Many people said that when celebrities have unlimited money for hair, makeup, and special effects, it makes Halloween less fun.
One user said, “There’s nothing more boring than celebrities doing a fancy photoshoot with unlimited money for Halloween and calling it a costume.”
Others believe that to really count as a Halloween costume, you need to wear it to a Halloween party or while trick-or-treating. One person commented, “Celebrities dressing up for a Halloween photoshoot doesn’t impress me. I think you should at least wear your costume to a club or a house party.”
Another user wrote, “Celebrities are so strange. You just did a photoshoot, and I don’t know what you expect us to do with that. If you’re not wearing it on a random red carpet like Heidi Klum, we don’t care.”
Heidi Klum, known as the queen of Halloween, took her famous Halloween tradition to the next level by dressing up as E.T. for her annual party at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City. Her costume, inspired by the classic movie by Steven Spielberg from 1982, featured a glowing fingertip and a motorized headpiece, with eyes and a mouth that her team could control remotely.
The America’s Got Talent judge even shared that she spent over a year creating her Halloween costume. However, many fans believe nothing will ever top her iconic costume from 2022, when she dressed as a worm.
