Diddy’s Lawyer Claims Mogul Was Nearly Stabbed in Jail

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team claimed that he was almost stabbed by another inmate while he was incarcerated at New York City’s Detention Center, according to TMZ and Inner City Press. During Diddy’s sentencing hearing for his federal trial, his lawyer Brian Steel claimed that Diddy’s been targeted while at MDC Brooklyn because certain people believe they’d gain status in the jail if they were to attack him. Steel said that one of the jail’s guards stopped a man who was planning to target Diddy with a shank.

“Sean is not a typical person in custody, everyone knows him,” said Steel. “It’s a trophy for them, they get recognition if they harm him.”

Because of the incident, Steel alleged that Diddy hasn’t slept for more than two consecutive hours since his arrest. “He eats out of bags, he eats chips all day long,” he added.

“He sometimes would tell me, ‘it’s not worth going on, there’s nothing here, there’s no more hope,’” Steel added. “But his family — he could not again bring suffering on them, that would just be more trauma to them.”

Earlier during the hearing, Diddy came under fire from prosecutor Christy Slavik who claimed that the music mogul is already expecting to be released because he’s planning speaking events.

Slavik said that “the defendant doesn’t appreciate or understand the gravity of his criminal conduct.”

Addressing Diddy’s supposed event, Slavik said, “He has booked speaking engagements in Miami for next week. That is the height of hubris, your honor.”

According to Diddy’s attorney Marc Agnifilo, the mogul’s defense is seeking a 14-month sentence. The prosecution, meanwhile, is looking for Diddy to be sentenced to over 11 years. The attorney also brought up Diddy’s past as contributing to the cause of what he’s been convicted of. “Domestic violence tends to come from childhood trauma,” said Agnifilo. “It’s very clear that Sean Combs has genuine psychological challenges.”
