Carrie Underwood has support from two former American Idol stars.

In 2005, American Idol introduced Carrie Underwood, a girl from a small town in Oklahoma with an amazing voice and big dreams. Almost 20 years later, the singer of “Before He Cheats” has sold 85 million records around the world, won eight GRAMMYs, and got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Next year, Underwood will return to the show that started her career, but this time she will be a judge. She will have the support of another former winner and judge on the show.

Keith Urban, Kelly Clarkson Show Support For Carrie Underwood

Keith Urban has experience judging singing competitions on reality TV. He was a judge on American Idol from seasons 12 to 15. He believes that Carrie Underwood is just what the show needs for its 23rd season.

“She’s going to be great,” Urban said in a recent interview with Taste of Country Nights. “Having been on the other side of the judging desk, like Carrie has, is a big advantage because she understands what the contestants are going through. She’s a perfect choice for this role, and she’s going to do an excellent job.”

Kelly Clarkson, who was the very first winner of the show, also thinks highly of Carrie’s new role. “I think that’s a brilliant idea,” Clarkson said in an interview with E! News. “Who better to have than someone who has won the show and built such a huge career? That experience is priceless. I believe she’s going to do great.”

The “Breakaway” singer also previously served as a judge on The Voice. So she has seen how firsthand experience comes in clutch when interacting with aspiring artists.

The original American Idol judge
Simon Cowell, has something to say about Carrie Underwood taking Katy Perry’s place. Fans who watched the show from the beginning will remember Cowell, the tough British record executive who crushed a lot of dreams during his time as a judge from 2002 to 2010.

When asked about Carrie, he said, “You just have to say what you really feel. It’s not hard to do this job, I promise. We all have different opinions, and thank goodness for that—otherwise, life would be boring. Just enjoy it.”
