The actor who played Freddy Krueger has explained why he can never play the famous character again.

The actor who played Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund, has addressed rumors about him wearing the famous sweater one last time.

He explained why he will never play Krueger again after his co-star, Heather Langenkamp, who played Nancy Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street, suggested that he might return.

Englund told Bloody Disgusting, “I don’t. I literally don’t. There might be some gimmick where we do a close-up or something, but no, I can’t play him anymore.”

However, he didn’t completely rule out the idea. He said, “I would love to be invited if they reboot Part 3, Dream Warriors, which I think is the most popular film in the franchise. It would be fun to play one of the doctors. The great Priscilla Pointer, Amy Irving’s mother, was in that film. Maybe I could play her role as a male doctor who is very cynical.”

Robert Englund described a possible cameo where he could wink at the audience, showing that he doesn’t believe in the idea of a dream demon everyone is dreaming about. He mentioned that it’s common in horror remakes to give a small role to an actor from the original film, and he thinks that would be fun.

However, the 77-year-old said his age is a big reason he can’t play Freddy Krueger again, saying, “I’m too old.”

It feels like the end of an era for horror fans since Englund has been part of every A Nightmare on Elm Street movie except for the 2010 reboot. He even starred in Freddy vs. Jason.

Englund said, “But no, there’s no Freddy left in me. I could possibly voice a really high-end animated version, and that would be nice to be asked to do. But I know I can’t do the fight scenes anymore—maybe just one take from one angle.”

He added, “I just can’t be snapping my head or anything like that. I’m an old dog! Give me a break.”

It’s understandable; you can’t really expect Englund to be throwing people around anymore, even if the actors are just hanging by ropes.

At 77 years old, he should be enjoying retirement, and he definitely deserves it after the life he’s had!
