Teen girl, 14, plunges to her death from elite UES private school building

A 14-year-old girl plunged to her death from an elite Upper East Side private school — and police are looking into whether it was suicide or an accidental fall.

The teen was discovered unconscious and unresponsive outside the Chapin School on East End Avenue near East 84th Street when the NYPD responded to a 911 call around 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, the department said.

Her injuries were “indicative of falling from an elevated position,” and she was rushed to Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she was initially listed in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to her injuries, police said.

No criminality was involved in her death, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether she died by suicide or an accidental fall.

Her name was not immediately released, pending family notification.

The tragedy took place just before students at the all-girls K-12 prep school were set to go on winter break, and likely taking their midterm exams.

It also comes about a month after a 16-year-old boy jumped to his death from Regis High School, a private, tuition-free all-boys school, also on the Upper East Side, police said then.

The posh girls school — founded in 1901 by Maria Bowen Chapin — counts a slew of famous alumni, including former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and presidents’ daughters, such as Ivanka Trump, Julie Nixon Eisenhower, and Tricia Nixon Cox.

The Chapin School is an elite institution, costing $68,250 per year.

Tuition and fees at Chapin for the 2025-2026 school year sit at $68,250, with the school committed to “providing generous financial grants to families,” according to its website.

Chapin representatives could not be reached Thursday.
