White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has opened up about the age gap in her marriage.
Leavitt, 28, is married to Nicolas Riccio who is 60 years old, making him 32 years older than her – more than double her age.
After winning the 2024 presidential election, Trump appointed Leavitt as the youngest-ever White House press secretary.
Her tenure in the position has seen the White House distance itself from more ‘traditional’ media, including a lawsuit with Associated Press after the White House barred the agency from briefings for not referring to the Gulf of Mexico as the ‘Gulf of America’.
Now, Leavitt has opened up about her relationship with her husband, including the large age gap.

Appearing on Pod Force One with Miranda Devine, she was asked: “Could you not find boys your own age who were as mature?”
Leavitt jokingly replied: “Honestly, no, if you want to know the truth.”
She went on to talk about the conversation that she had with her parents, revealing that it wasn’t an easy conversation due to the difference in age.
“But then, of course, once they got to know him and saw who he is as a man, and his character and how much he adores me, I think it became quite easy for them,” she said.
“And now we’re all friends. I mean, it’s a typical family relationship. My husband has such respect for my parents and the way that they raised me, and we all have a lot of fun together when they come to visit.”
Leavitt went on to speak about how she met her husband when she was 25 years old.

She said: “We met during my congressional campaign. A friend of mine, who owns a restaurant, is also a mutual friend of my husband’s. He invited my husband to my event at his restaurant and we met.”
Speaking on the The Megyn Kelly Show, Leavitt said: “I mean it’s a very atypical love story, but he’s incredible.
Kelly went on to explain that Riccio has been supportive of her career.
“He’s built a very successful business himself so now he’s fully supportive of me building my success in my career,” she said.
The pair married in January 2025 after first getting engaged all the way back in December 2023.
In 2024, they welcomed twins, with Leavitt recalling how she had to cut her maternity leave short after Trump was shot during his presidential campaign.
