Woman claims she brutally rejected new Mayor of NYC Zohran Mamdani on dating app for one specific reason

A woman has lamented the ‘fumble of the century’ after describing the specific reason she rejected New York City’s mayor elect Zohran Mamdani on a dating app.

Zohran Mamdani has now become the youngest person in decades to be elected as mayor of New York City, as well as the first Muslim and the first South Asian to hold the office.

The 34-year-old ran a campaign which centred the cost of living in NYC, with his central promise being to make the city more affordable for working people.

But since then, the woman said she thinks that actually, Mamdani was probably being completely honest about his height.

“Present me appreciates that he was more honest than most guys on there,” she wrote.

Mamdani and Rama Duwaji married in 2025, and Duwaji will become the youngest first lady of New York City on January 1.

During his victory speech, Mamdani paid tribute to his wife, saying: “To my incredible wife, Rama, hayati.

“There is no one I would rather have by my side in this moment, and in every moment.”

‘Hayati’ is an Arabic term of endearment, meaning ‘my life’; artist and ceramicist Duwaji has Syrian heritage.

Duwaji has had work published in The Washington Post, The New Yorker, the Tate Modern art gallery in London, and the BBC.
